ART INSTALLATIONS

GRAND CENTRAL WINDOWS
At a time when stores in Grand Central Station were derelict and empty and a
mob of unruly shoe-shine boys ruled 42nd Street once again artists were called
in to save the day. Twenty-four diverse scenic artists were given 24 derelict
empty spaces to open imaginary art stores. I was employed in sculpting two golden
gilt horse heads. They stood profiling the grand avenue for six months night
and day and became a point of interest such that a single bullet hole appeared
in the glass. What is success?

OFF SITE SHOW PS1
Buried deep in the catacombs of PS1 I found my site to bury in a cavernous darkness
a glowing Hercules helmet and St. George's stone and sword. This odd placement
was part of a special art show curated by Alanna Heis that was exhibited in
semi accessible spaces of the museum.
AWARDS AND TROPHY COMMISSIONS
OPEN PALM AWARD
..
The Open Palm Award was sponsored by Bruce Weber yearly as part of the Gotham
Awards to be given to the best New York Independent film. Its open palm held
a strip of film in the fingers and for many independent film makers symbolized
the necessity of seeking funds for independent production. Jenny Livingstone,
the first year's winner received the award for Paris is Burning, her epic documentary
on houses of style. More than a dozen years and a dozen winners have been acknowledged
by this statue.
P.S. It works as a perfect Betty Davis ashtray
YOUTH RACE TROPHY
This statuette and
trophy was recreated for yearly races held in Central Park for the children
of New York sponsored by Mrs. Kerbs, guardian angel of the Central Park Model
Yacht Club.
RUN-a-WAY WORK
CHINESE ACROBATS FOR THEA PORTER
Thea Porter as an early legendary London designer commissioned these tumbling
aerialists in silver to fly across her Chinese silk pajama evening wear. When
my silver troupe arrived in London and did her show they received wild applause.
KELTIC COLLECTION FOR MARY MCFADDEN

When Mary's upcoming collection turned to a Keltic theme I felt more than natural creating bronze animals which jumped from the illuminated manuscripts of Kells. Ms. McFadden showed the collection in the magnificent New York Public Library to a crush of New York's finest. Elbowing me by the runway, Elsa Klinch later covered my Keltic crosses on CNN, probably inspired when bare breasted beauties stalked down the runway in double waiste-length cruxifixes.
SCENIC SCULPTURES
BABE THE BLUE OX
Babe the Blue Ox was a local icon for Minnesota. I was commissioned by Neiman
Marcus to recreate his great blue-ness larger than life and he served as the
loyal babe in a brilliant photo with big Paul himself. He was constructed in
one week as were these other display photo sculptures.
EXOTIC FRUIT
Strange as it may seem I was actually commissioned to carve these giant, luscious
fruits tall as a person, and they were shipped for the opening of Armani Exchange's
Santa Monica store. One would think Hollywood could have done a faster job,
but I was happy ship my fruit to the west coast.
TITANIC
It may be a strange concept to have people exchanging gifts sitting in lifeboats
as the Titanic sinks but one has to give latitude to creative art directors.
The commissioned lifeboat had seating for six, Cunard line colors, and safety
roping at the red gunwales. It was constructed in the front of the little store
cleverly bolted in half to exit the little door. We launched it and tested it
on the street as passerbys waved us bon voyage.
ILLUMINATED WINDOWS
..
With the inclusion of natural specimens, chandelier crystals, sliced agates,
and blue-rippled glass my stained glass windows always depicted the tumbling
and splashing of water as the spiritual refreshment of light. They have graced
Soho lofts and daily glowed in my landlord's office for thirty years reminding
him what a good fellow I am.
MONUMENTS OF AMERICA
I continue to photograph roadside monuments, folk castles and almost anything
that claims to be the world's largest and have my vintage photos of the Cadillac
Ranch, Crazy Horse Mountain and the White Buffalo Monument. A sampling of this
work was kindly published in German Playboy and earned me a fistful of Deutsche
marks.
